Economist seeks deputy news editor in London

The Economist is a weekly publication that is the leading source of analysis on international business and world affairs. We are an international company, employing staff throughout the world. We deliver information, opinion and analysis in print and through a range of digital formats.

We are looking for a deputy news editor to support our expanding digital output. This new post will principally involve working in our news team, but there will also be opportunities to write for the newspaper.

Accountabilities:

In the role you would be expected to:

  • Help the news editor co-ordinate our coverage of fast-moving stories via digital channels including the web, apps, multimedia and social media
  • Help with the planning and structuring coverage of the global news and trends, commissioning and editing pieces, and supervising the distribution of Economist content on digital channels
Experience, skills and professional attributes:

To succeed in the role you must have:

  • Good news judgement
  • A clear appreciation of the distinctive culture and values of The Economist
  • Ideas on how the newspaper can strengthen its news coverage on digital platforms and take advantage of emerging platforms to bring new readers to The Economist

You must be able to demonstrate:

  • Strong writing skills
  • An interest in world affairs
  • Experience in digital journalism
