Dealreporter seeking journalist

December 4, 2013

Posted by Chris Roush

Dealreporter, a real time news service that is part of the Financial Times Group, has an opening for a business journalist to join our team to cover high-profile deal activity.

As a business journalist, your articles will range from scooping a company for sale to an analysis predicting potential deal activity. This role is entirely focused on off-diary reporting and is a great opportunity for a reporter looking to move into an investigative journalism position.

The right candidate needs to be able to generate original story ideas, make new sources and quickly pick up technical information. An established source book of corporate finance or M&A sources is preferred, though applicants with a strong networking ability will be considered. The right candidate should be as happy reporting a story independently as working with a team of reporters based around the world. The ideal candidate will have previous experience working at a financial news service or newspaper.

Key Skills:
1.Keen interest in business news, mergers and acquisitions

2.Ability to interview dealmakers and senior executives

3.Existing corporate finance contact book or strong networking skills

4.Strong aptitude for understanding SEC filings, balance sheets etc

5.Ability to pick up on trends and develop original angles for stories

This role is based in New York, but we will consider exceptional candidates interested in working from our bureaus in South Florida, San Francisco and Washington DC.
