Dallas Morning News seeks business copy editor

Are you a great copy editor with an interest in business stories? The Dallas Morning News wants you. We are looking for someone who loves words, writes engaging, informative headlines and photo captions, knows grammar and spelling, and is a stickler for accuracy. The ideal candidate thrives under deadline pressure and enjoys a collaborative work environment.

Knowledge of the CCI publishing system and design skills are a plus, but not required. Hours vary, but all involve night shifts, weekends and holidays.

The successful candidate:

  • Can write a headline that draws readers in
  • Has excellent language skills
  • Can spell
  • Understands business stories
  • Can spot an error and knows how to fix it
  • Can select and edit wire stories
  • Likes to collaborate with co-workers
  • Is self-reliant and resourceful
  • Bachelor’s degree
  • Minimum of one year of copy editing experience (internships included).

Chris Roush was the dean of the School of Communications at Quinnipiac University in Hamden, Connecticut. He was previously Walter E. Hussman Sr. Distinguished Professor in business journalism at UNC-Chapel Hill. He is a former business journalist for Bloomberg News, Businessweek, The Atlanta Journal-Constitution, The Tampa Tribune and the Sarasota Herald-Tribune. He is the author of the leading business reporting textbook "Show me the Money: Writing Business and Economics Stories for Mass Communication" and "Thinking Things Over," a biography of former Wall Street Journal editor Vermont Royster.
