Dallas Morning News seeks biz reporter in DC

May 17, 2016

The Dallas Morning News seeks a versatile and energetic journalist to report on Texas business interests in its Washington bureau.

This reporter will tackle, at various times, trade, housing, health care, telecom, aviation, energy, immigration, food safety, drug policy, transportation and immigration. He or she will work with others in the bureau and in Dallas and Austin to explain how legislation and regulation impacts Texans’ health, wallets, jobs and businesses; track influence through donations and lobbying; and explore clashes between the state and federal government.

The ideal candidate has a proven ability to build and grow a digital audience; craft coverage that works across various platforms; juggle multiple topics and learn new ones; dive deep; cultivate sources; and deliver quick hits and compelling enterprise; and write well on deadline. Essentials include a solid grasp of politics, skills with data and public documents and a temperament for collaboration. Superior reporting and writing is a must.

Our audience comes to us on many platforms and expects analysis and watchdog journalism. Our Washington bureau covers Texans on the national stage and the second-largest congressional delegation, including some of the most influential and visible federal lawmakers. We seek to break news and punch above our weight.
