Daily Business Review seeks real estate reporter

The South Florida Real Estate Writer will be responsible for covering topics in the land use, urban development and real estate law fields.  This includes:

  • Covering stories concerning the sweeping national and statewide controversies generated by the foreclosure crisis, as well as new state and local regulations concerning land use and how they’d be applied to developers and others in the real estate profession.
  • Blogging about the latest trends and South Florida news developments in the above mentioned topic areas.
  • Chronicling developers in the news, and track statutory and administrative actions pertaining to land use, zoning changes and policy changes at the state and local levels.
  • Following the initiatives of the real estate specialty law firms and lawyer-lobbyists who seek to effect regulatory and ordinance changes on the city, county and state levels.

Requirements:

  • Five years of experience covering real estate and business topics for a daily newspaper, as well as reporting experience in covering the courts .
  • Bachelors in journalism or in business administration.
  • Some working knowledge of the Spanish language.

Chris Roush was the dean of the School of Communications at Quinnipiac University in Hamden, Connecticut. He was previously Walter E. Hussman Sr. Distinguished Professor in business journalism at UNC-Chapel Hill. He is a former business journalist for Bloomberg News, Businessweek, The Atlanta Journal-Constitution, The Tampa Tribune and the Sarasota Herald-Tribune. He is the author of the leading business reporting textbook "Show me the Money: Writing Business and Economics Stories for Mass Communication" and "Thinking Things Over," a biography of former Wall Street Journal editor Vermont Royster.
