Reporting and Writing: The Associate News Editor will find high-impact and trending stories through sourcing and a keen understanding of how to mine the current news cycle. He or she must be comfortable using social media for discovering story leads — and they must know how to report the old fashioned way by phone, in person and via documents. Some stories will be assigned, but a premium will be put on journalists who can generate their own original ideas and angles. The Associate News Editor must be a focused, careful and efficient reporter with strong writing skills and able to turn stories quickly.
Editing/Coverage Coordination: The Associate News Editor will have some editing and coverage coordination duties. He or she will work closely with all aspects of CNNMoney’s staff, including the graphics and video teams. The Associate News Editor will also work closely with other parts of CNN to coordinate coverage and story assignments.
Website/Social Media Curation: The Associate News Editor will work closely with the CNNMoney programming team, which curates all desktop, mobile and social platforms. The Associate News Editor may also have some direct programming and social responsibilities, depending on the time of day and week.
Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree or equivalent work experience.
- 2-3 years editorial experience preferred.
- New media and business-news experience a plus.
- Leadership; analytical skills; communication skills, journalistic foundations.
