Blue Ridge Public Radio is hiring an Editor to join the team!
The editor will work closely with the BPR News Director to lead a team of five reporters/hosts. The editor will also work closely with the BPR’s Audience department to develop strong news distribution mechanisms.
Key job responsibilities:
- Assign, budget, and edit digital and audio stories
- Coach reporters and hosts on story pitches and development
- Provide editing support in breaking news coverage
- Fill in for BPR News Director as needed and assume supervisory responsibilities as assigned
- Ensure that all content complies with BPR’s editorial standards
- Recruit and coordinate freelance contributors (photographers, data visualization experts, illustrators
Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree in Journalism or a related field and five (5) years of related experience with increasing responsibility in each successive position required.
- Preferred Experience, Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
- Two years of management experience.
- Familiarity with issues in North Carolina.
- Ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously and to adapt to changing priorities/conditions.
- Demonstrated ability to plan and meet deadlines.
- Demonstrated ability to manage colleagues effectively and collaboratively.
- Exceptional written communication skills.
- Exceptional audio production and audio editing skills.
- Creativity and initiative.
- Familiarity with the public media system.

Location:
The position is location-based in or near Asheville, NC. Currently, staff members may work two days per week remotely and three days in the Asheville offices.
Requirements:
- Authorized to work in the US without sponsorship
- 5 years of related professional experience
- Minimum Bachelors Degree
Salary range: $68,000-78,000 annually, based on experience.
