Bloomberg seeks data journalist for B school rankings

Bloomberg is seeking a data journalist with a strong understanding of survey research and data analysis to produce Bloomberg’s Business School rankings, a flagship editorial data project, and to develop and execute a suite of similarly ambitious annual franchises.

In this role, you will work closely with our Game Plan team, which leads coverage of higher education, careers and school rankings; as well as our award-winning Bloomberg Graphics team. Maintaining and improving our highly valued B-School rankings will consume roughly half the data journalist’s time.

This part of the job requires not only administering rankings surveys and analyzing data, but acting as an ambassador for the rankings by communicating regularly with key stakeholders, including business schools themselves, speaking at conferences, and representing the rankings both internally and externally.

In the rest of your time, you will create new, recurring projects that rival the Innovation Index and the Bloomberg Recruiter Report in scope and ambition-franchises that can sustain reader interest and generate news year after year.

As a member of the Game Plan team, you will pursue projects that answer questions young professionals need to know to get ahead: Where are the best internships? What countries offer the best job opportunities? What does it take to become an entrepreneur?

Strong reporting, research, analytical, and time-management skills are critical. A sophisticated understanding of survey research, and a passion for research, data, and journalism are essential. Finally, because the rankings are a highly scrutinized annual event that rest on the credibility and thoroughness of their methodology, the role requires the maturity and judgment to communicate clearly with and solicit feedback from the project’s many stakeholders.

Qualifications:
– Bachelor’s or advanced degree
– Experience with survey research, statistics and data journalism
– Knowledge of statistics
– Attention to detail and excellent time management
– Expertise in Excel, as well as a statistical analysis program such as SPSS, SAS, Stata and/or R.
– Ability to work on multiple projects and manage priorities and deadlines
-Ability to find and evaluate data sources and develop sophisticated and clear methodologies
