The FX/Rates team in New York is looking for a reporter to drive coverage of the world’s most-actively traded markets, breaking news and explaining the intricacies of global currencies.
As an FX/Rates reporter, you’ll be required to pounce on moves in the currency and bond markets, keep in touch with some of the biggest and most respected names in the industry, and have an understanding of politics and economics. You’ll need to work quickly, responding to the evolution of the geopolitical landscape, policy shifts in the world’s richest nations and the twists and turns of the changing global economy. We’ll also look to you for a steady roster of original ideas on everything from dollar hegemony and the globalization of the yuan to the business and structure of the currency and rates markets, and to think creatively about how to tell those stories across Bloomberg’s multimedia platforms and magazines.
WE’LL RELY ON YOU TO:
- Generate and craft concise, on-the-spot stories, capturing the elements of both ‘what’s happening’ and ‘what it means’
- Identify and interpret broader trends in currencies and rates, drawing upon expertise from across the market and the Bloomberg newsroom to help generate impactful, thematic stories that set the agenda for investors and policymakers
- Cultivate a broad network of investors, traders and other market participants to seek reaction to breaking news and build deeper stories that explain market activity or analyze trends
YOU’LL NEED:
- A minimum of four years in journalism and/or relevant industry with a proven track record for breaking news on beat coverage of an industry or markets
- Excellent written and spoken English skills, with the ability to quickly produce copy that is accurate, engaging and on point
- The ability to generate story ideas and find the narrative in numbers, with a knack for distilling complex subjects into vibrant and approachable stories
- An understanding of broad financial market mechanics; specific knowledge of currency and bond markets is desirable but not a prerequisite
- The ability to tap into a wide variety of contacts, ranging from some of the world’s biggest investors and traders to government officials and policy makers
- An ability to discern actionable, market-relevant information from breaking news
- Bachelor’s degree or equivalent experience
