Bloomberg BNA seeks tax/accounting deputy editorial director

Bloomberg BNA seeks a Deputy Editorial Director, Tax & Accounting to lead and manage assigned tax and accounting editorial team to maximize editorial quality, timeliness of content updates, and operational efficiency, while supporting development of new products and tools as well as ancillary content that enhances BBNA’s product offering in assigned subject area to practitioners and supports the Tax & Accounting division’s business objectives.

RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Strengthen and maintain the editorial quality of the department’s products; communicate and enforce standards of quality and style; monitor quality of all content through regular review and markup of issues.
  • Oversee editorial workflows, track and report timeliness of development updates to content, manage staff to maximize effectiveness while maintaining high quality standards for content, and recommend improvements to processes to optimize efficiencies.
  • Review organizational structure and staffing on a regular basis to maximize resource allocations, including full-time staff and external content sources.
  • Coach and support staff to achieve team’s goals and promote staff development, including technical and project-based skills. Provide regular feedback and recognition to editorial staffs on content, writing, style, mechanics, and adherence to BBNA standards.
  • Serve as lead advocate for assigned subject matter and work with Editorial Director, other practice area leads, and news directors, to ensure quality across all departments; ensure operational efficiency and budgetary compliance of department.
  • Lead development and implementation efforts for strategic and operational plans for federal tax based on market demand and customer feedback.
  • Directly support marketing and sales efforts and lead team to increase marketing and sales’ awareness of assigned subject matter developments and BBNA’s coverage of same.
  • Maintain a high level of awareness of market climate, including opportunities and threats; prepare team responses to same, including communications and special reports.
  • Manage budget for practice area, maximizing efficiencies while minimizing expenses to stay within budget constraints.
  • Encourage idea creation and feedback to improve content creation processes and new product development and enhancements for assigned subject matter.
  • Work with Human Resources to make or approve decisions regarding hires, salary actions, promotions, disciplinary action, and terminations.
  • Ensure effective development of staff through training, academic programs, job rotations and transfers, and other methods to increase business and editorial skills; and plan for management succession within the department.
  • Participate in special projects and perform other duties as assigned.

REQUIREMENTS:
10+ years’ experience in an appropriate combination of editorial, people management, and business management experience; strong judgment and experience managing high performing teams; ability to lead and manage a team of technical managers and staff to achieve divisions’ objectives; experience in managing internal and external resources to achieve operational objectives while adhering to financial budget; strong technical knowledge in the assigned subject matter area; knowledge of BBNA standards and style, a plus; excellent writing and editing skills; excellent verbal and written communication skills; excellent project management skills and demonstrated experience in optimizing resource allocations and change management experience; experience in a performance based work environment, measuring quantitative and qualitative results; Juris Doctorate required.  L.LM. in taxation preferred (for tax subject matter positions); B.S. in accounting required and CPA preferred (for accounting subject matter positions).
