Bloomberg BNA seeks copy editor

Bloomberg BNABloomberg BNABloomberg BNA seeks a copy editor (News) to copy edit news stories, features, or other material written by staff members for publication(s); shape and coordinate coverage of unit’s publication(s); and guide and advise staff members in their research, reporting, writing, and editing.

RESPONSIBILITIES: Ensure that quality standards of assigned publication(s) are met; distribute staff assignments; maintain subject area knowledge related to unit’s publication(s), including current awareness of issues and developments in the field; serve as subject area expert and resource for others contributing to same or related publications; oversee and participate in production of unit’s publication(s); ensure that copy and production deadlines are met; develop and maintain contacts in the government and private sector in order to obtain and verify information related to unit’s publication(s); assume responsibility for unit’s editorial operations in the absence of the Managing Editor; and perform special projects and other duties as assigned.

REQUIREMENTS: 3 years’ experience in news judgment and ability to copy edit news stories, features, and other material for content and style quickly and under deadline; ability to report, write, and edit news stories, features, and other material (including complex and/or analytical pieces) requiring minimal editing under deadline; knowledge of subject area(s) covered by assigned publication(s); familiarity of BNA style rules; ability to work effectively with other staff members to develop their journalism skills and strengthen their contributions to the unit’s publication(s); knowledge of journalistic principles and techniques; knowledge of federal and state legislative, regulatory, and judicial processes; ability to use electronic research methods effectively; ability to use BNA publishing systems effectively with BNA training; and excellent copy editing skills. Bachelor’s with coursework in English, journalism, or subjects related to assigned publication(s).
