Bankrate is hiring a mortgage reporter

Bankrate is looking for a mortgage reporter to join the team in its new, state-of-the-art editorial hub in New York City. In this role, you will own the mortgage beat, interview newsmakers in the housing industry and help our readers navigate the home buying process.

What you’ll do:

  • Write daily news stories with clean, clear copy while under deadline.
  • Turn on breaking news and also break news of your own, always focusing on the consumer angle.
  • Be passionate about home buying, following the industry closely with a focus on mortgages.
  • Leverage your sources and contacts to get exclusive interviews with industry newsmakers.
  • Represent Bankrate as an expert spokesperson.
  • Take a technical subject such as home buying and write it in a way that’s easily understandable.
  • Create content for one-off features and special requests.
  • Understand metrics of our storytelling and allow them to inform our decisions.

What we’re looking for:

  • 2+ years of writing experience in the mortgage or related industry.
  • Sharp news judgment and knowledgeable of mortgage industry trends.
  • Flexibility to break news, write data studies and craft SEO-focused articles.
  • Seasoned reporter with sources in the mortgage and housing industry.
  • Ability to represent Bankrate as a spokesperson.
  • Ability to adapt and pivot quickly.
  • Excellent time management skills.
  • Command of AP style.
  • Bachelor’s degree or equivalent experience.
