Austin daily seeks a tech reporter

May 10, 2019

Posted by Chris Roush

The Austin American-Statesman has reporting openings for a business/tech reporter, higher-education reporter, metro reporter and investigative reporter, making this the perfect time to join the award-winning news team in a city that’s brimming with creativity and energy. The Statesman and its family of websites — statesman.comaustin360.com and hookem.com — put a heavy emphasis on local and regional news, culture and sports in the capital of Texas.

The business/tech reporter will cover Austin’s vibrant tech sector and culture. From startups and meetups to tech giants Facebook, Samsung and Apple, the stories here are endless.

The higher-education reporter will cover the University of Texas, Texas State University and a host of smaller schools, as well as state higher-education issues emerging out of the Capitol. We’re looking for a reporter who can break news on the board of regents one day and capture the flavor of campus life the next.

The metro reporter will cover some of the fastest-growing counties in the nation, telling the stories of communities in change and how governments are addressing that growth.

Postings for these positions are already up (or will soon be up) at the GateHouse Media careers page. Applicants may also reach out to Andy Alford, senior editor for news, at aalford@statesman.com and Barry Harrell, business editor, at bharrell@statesman.com.
