Posted by Chris Roush

The American Lawyer is a multifaceted web site, daily digital newsletter, tablet edition and prize-winning monthly magazine, all of which report on the business of major law firms in the United States and, increasingly, around the world.

We are looking for a smart, competitive, creative and energetic Managing Editor to drive and grow our daily news coverage on our web site and via our daily digital newsletters.

Reporting to the Editor-in-Chief, the Managing Editor will be responsible for assigning and editing daily online content (breaking news, trend articles, infographics and other charts, survey-based stories, and commentary); building charts and interactive content; and coordinating with other web sites in the company and the monthly print magazine. The web editor should understand the importance of The American Lawyer brand to its influential readers.

Requirements Include:

  • Bachelor’s degree or equivalent work experience.
  • Seven years of experience as a business or financial journalist; experience with legal affairs desirable.
  • Being a creative newsroom leader who can see the story behind the story, inspire staffers to do their best work and try new approaches, and present news in a variety of formats.
  • Excellent writing and editing skills under pressure in a fast-paced environment.
  • Demonstrated multi-media platform experience, including knowledge of content management systems and blogging platforms.
  • Ability to bring together for maximum effect staffers who have various skills and talents and contribute to an overall collaborative environment.

ALM places a high value on employees and strives to be an employer of choice. To that end we offer competitive salaries, professional growth opportunities, and a comprehensive selection of benefits that include: medical, dental, vision, 401(K) and life insurance options.

Qualified candidates should submit resume and cover letter with salary requirements in the subject line to opportunities@alm.com for immediate consideration.
