Virginia Business is seeking an Associate Editor/Writer to work with our editorial team and assist with projects and news coverage. Duties + Responsibilities:
• Work with Editor, Deputy Editor, other editorial team members and freelance contributors on producing insightful news coverage for our audiences
• Participate in a multimedia newsroom providing essential niche content across platforms, including website, email newsletters, social media and print.
• Write and post stories to ensure essential digital content daily
• Regularly produce newsletters and social media posts in coordination with other editorial team members
• Assist in the production of a daily news website and monthly print magazine
• Write and edit content for print magazine
• Generate story ideas for daily news, enterprise stories and monthly magazine stories
Skills + Requirements:
• Bachelor’s degree in English, journalism, or relevant work experience
• 2+ years of experience writing, reporting, and editing for a newspaper or news outlet specifically
• Knowledge of business news coverage
• Knowledge of Virginia businesses and government preferred
• AP Stylebook knowledge
• Some copy editing or editing experience preferred
• Strong computer skills and digital news management- including but not limited to: Word, Microsoft Excel, WordPress, Adobe Photoshop, Adobe Reader and Acrobat, and internet research skills
• Excellent organizational skills
• Ability to thrive in a fast-paced, deadline-driven environment
• Remote but individuals must be located in either the Norfolk/Chesapeake or Northern Virginia regions
• Reliable transportation required for events and meetings as needed
• Reliable home internet connection with minimum 50mbps up/10mbps down
