Albuquerque Business First seeks assistant editor

Do you love being the first to know what’s happening in business – and sharing that news with others? Then you might be Albuquerque Business First’s next assistant editor.

The assistant editor owns the execution of Albuquerque Business First’s Morning Edition email, an indispensible roundup of the things local businesspeople need to know to start a successful day. The assistant editor will craft timely and compelling stories that drive loyal engagement, grow audience and extend the Business Journal brand in the digital space, and help the rest of the ABF newsroom do the same. The job requires solid news judgment, strong headline writing skills and familiarity with SEO and site metrics.

This position will also oversee and generate editorial content for ABF’s main social media accounts. The assistant editor will consult with staff, and coach, on personal social media account use and maximization strategies. This position will track social media metrics and measure engagement with an eye toward constant improvement.

The assistant editor will also write for our weekly edition, and edit and guide content across all platforms.

REQUIRED EDUCATION, EXPERIENCE AND SKILLS

· Bachelor’s degree or equivalent experience

· 2-3 years experience in online news operation

· Strong headline writing and copy-editing skills

· Familiarity with AP Style

· SEO experience

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

• Produce newsy, engaging stories daily online

· Track metrics and measure engagement with an eye toward constant improvement

· Work with editors, reporters and other stakeholders to plan new content and features

· Help staff identify and deploy tactics to meet traffic and engagement goals

· Develop and execute content strategies to consistently grow audience, engagement and Business Journal brand across multiple platforms

· Oversee and generate content for main social media accounts for editorial

· Write feature stories for our weekly edition

· Edit and guide content across platforms as needed

· Regularly participate in and attend Business First-sponsored events
