Kansas City Biz Journal seeks a reporter

The Kansas City Business Journal is the premier source of local business news, data, and networking opportunities for the Kansas City region. It provides essential business intelligence, breaking news alerts, and curated Weekly, Afternoon, and Morning Editions to help professionals succeed. Role Description

This is a full-time hybrid role in a newsroom that has a strong team ethic. We learn from each other, help each other and make each other better. Based in the Kansas City metropolitan area, this role requires covering local business news by conducting interviews, developing sources and writing compelling news stories online and in print. In this way, we’re also a hybrid because we provide coverage on serious business topics from a community perspective.

Qualifications

  • Strong skills in journalism and reporting
  • Proficiency in news writing and general writing capabilities
  • Solid understanding and experience in journalism
  • Excellent research, interviewing and storytelling abilities
  • Familiarity with covering financial and economic data or specific industry trends is a plus
  • Self-motivated and deadline-oriented, with attention to detail

Chris Roush

Chris Roush was the dean of the School of Communications at Quinnipiac University in Hamden, Connecticut. He was previously Walter E. Hussman Sr. Distinguished Professor in business journalism at UNC-Chapel Hill. He is a former business journalist for Bloomberg News, Businessweek, The Atlanta Journal-Constitution, The Tampa Tribune and the Sarasota Herald-Tribune. He is the author of the leading business reporting textbook "Show me the Money: Writing Business and Economics Stories for Mass Communication" and "Thinking Things Over," a biography of former Wall Street Journal editor Vermont Royster.
