CNBC editor in chief David Cho sent out the following on Thursday:
Team,
I recently shared an update on the Digital Control Room, a new cross-newsroom approach that will be central to bringing the extraordinary work already happening across CNBC into a more connected experience for audiences.
The depth of expertise, care and ambition of our team sets CNBC’s journalism apart and will be at the heart of the value we offer audiences through our new subscription experience. Building on that foundation, I want to share several leadership updates that will begin next week and create the clearer ownership and closer coordination needed to support this new way of working across the newsroom.
Business Day Programming
To support a more connected approach across CNBC’s platforms, Business Day will be organized around two clear dayparts, with dedicated leadership for both the morning and afternoon.
Todd Bonin, Vice President of Programming and Senior Executive Producer, will now lead Business Day from 5am to noon as Jason Gewirtz moves to the Digital Control Room. Anne Tironi will continue to oversee Squawk Box and Lisa Villalobos will now manage all three hours of Squawk on the Street. Both will report to Todd.
Sandy Cannold, Vice President of Programming and Senior Executive Producer, will lead Business Day from noon to 6 pm. Kevin Flynn will continue to oversee Halftime Report and Closing Bell, Rich Carolan will become Executive Producer of The Exchange and Power Lunch, and Maria Boden will continue to oversee Closing Bell: Overtime and take on Fast Money. Kevin, Rich and Maria will report to Sandy.
We will soon post an opening for a new leader for Morning Call, who will report to Todd.
Matt Quayle will move from Senior Executive Producer of The Exchange and Power Lunch to an exciting new strategic role focused on content development across platforms. Drawing on his deep experience in programming and editorial development, Matt will help shape the next generation of CNBC content offerings. More details will be shared soon.
Regina Gilgan will continue to oversee Mad Money and Investing Club programming as Senior Executive Producer.
Additionally, Mary Duffy will continue in her role as Vice President & Senior Executive Producer of Strategic Initiatives and Talent Development, leading work across CNBC to produce new audience-facing offerings, develop and support talent, and oversee our Contributor network.
Newsgathering and Reporting
Lacy O’Toole, Vice President and Managing Editor, will expand her remit to include our Specials unit. This will allow our planning, breaking news and enterprise reporting to excel across the newsroom, helping ensure our most important journalism reaches audiences wherever they engage with CNBC. Ray Parisi and his team will report directly to Lacy.
All correspondents will now report directly to Lacy, except those aligned with the strategic verticals led by Max Meyers. Correspondents based in Washington and San Francisco will report to MC Wellons and Christina Passariello, respectively. MC and Christina will continue to report directly to Lacy and work closely with Ken Brown.
Digital and Editorial Strategy
In addition to his current editorial responsibilities, Ken Brown will now oversee our Investigations unit, with Scott Zamost and Paige Tortorelli reporting to him. This move will create additional opportunities to extend the reach and impact of the team’s award-winning reporting across platforms.
Taken together, these updates represent an investment in the people and leadership that will help CNBC better serve audiences across platforms and advance Versant’s broader growth strategy.
I’m grateful to everyone taking on new and expanded responsibilities, as well as the leaders across the newsroom who will continue to guide their teams through this next phase.
Dave
