Michael Lawrence, the global editor of news specialists at Reuters, made the following announcement to the staff on Monday:
I’m pleased to announce that Knut Engelmann has been appointed Global Company News Editor. Knut will lead our virtual team of more than 400-plus company news journalists covering deals, the financial industry, corporate results, white-collar crime, new products & technologies, and the people behind companies. He will drive our strategic agenda for company news, working closely with the business units to ensure we provide the best possible service for clients.
Knut brings more than 15 years of experience across the file to his new position. For the past three years, Knut has been leading our Editorial operations in Germany, Switzerland, Austria and the Western Balkans from his native Germany, managing a staff of more than 200 and overseeing some of the continent’s top company, financial and general news stories. Before moving to Frankfurt as Bureau Chief in 2005, Knut led our Swiss and Austrian operations from Zurich, where he also covered the Swiss financial sector. From 1998-2001, Knut worked in Washington, D.C. as Senior Economics Correspondent, where he wrote about the U.S. Federal Reserve under Alan Greenspan as well as the U.S. Treasury and economic policy beats during the height of the U.S. dot-com boom and the Asian financial crisis.
Knut will be based in New York and will start his new role in November. He will be part of the team of Global Specialist Editors and will report to me.
Please join me in welcoming Knut to his new role.
