Rina Chandran, who has covered business and technology across Asia, is joining Rest of World as its Southeast Asia editor.
A story on its website states, “Rina comes to us from the Thomson Reuters Foundation, where she was the Asia tech correspondent. Her work on the company’s Context platform covered the impact of technology on society — from platform gig work to online disinformation to digital privacy and surveillance — making Rina an ideal fit for Rest of World’s editorial mission. Prior to Context, she worked for Bloomberg, the Financial Times, and Reuters in Bangkok, Singapore, Mumbai and New York.
“Rina’s arrival marks an expansion of Rest of World’s coverage of Southeast Asia, a rapidly growing region at the heart of technological growth and transformation. It is a market courted by both tech giants in Silicon Valley and China, but one also producing new giants of its own like Grab, GoTo and Lazada.
“Rina will be based in Bangkok and will begin her new role on March 18.”
