We are hiring for a full-time news reporter at one of the top weekly newspapers in Alaska. Come be a part of community journalism at its best.

The Petersburg Pilot has a general assignment opening for an energetic reporter who will cover news stories, features, profiles, and more as needed.

The successful candidate will:

  • Be a self-starter with excellent AP writing skills who can meet deadlines
  • Develop story ideas and sources
  • Work collaboratively with others.

A degree in journalism or related field and some experience is required. This can be a great opportunity for recent grads.

The Pilot is an independent, locally owned print weekly with a supportive team and a loyal readership.

Petersburg, Alaska is a beautiful small town of 3,200 people on an island in Southeast Alaska. In the heart of the world’s largest temperate rainforest, forested mountains meet the sea, ice bergs and orca whales swim by, our office is across the street from a scenic harbor. Awesome outdoor recreation opportunities abound.

Petersburg is a commercial fishing town with a ton of character, full of stories, hard workers, creative people, adventurers. It is a good place to do the work of community journalism — small enough to build a deep, usable knowledge of the systems and people that make everything happen, and satisfying when you see that the work you do here really matters to the community.

Starting Salary $38-$44K, depending on experience, paid vacation, holidays, etc.  Relocation assistance potentially available.
