Alexander Burns, a national political correspondent who covered elections and political power across the U.S. for The New York Times, has left. Burns’ tweet reads:
“This wasn’t an easy choice but I know it is the right one for me and my family. I’ll let you know about my plans for the future once I’ve decided what they are. Thanks to @nytimes and to all of you for reading.”
Burns joined the Times in 2015 as political correspondent. Before that, he was a reporter and editor at Politico, where he covered the 2012 presidential election. He worked as a political analyst at CNN.
Burns graduated from Harvard College, where he edited the Harvard Political Review.
