Apropos of nothing: The Objective is accepting pitches about systemic coverage issues within journalism, and how we can do better.

WHAT WE ARE LOOKING FOR
Example of an A+++ Objective story: We seek to cover journalism with as much scrutiny as it covers other institutions of power and privilege.
Here’s another A+++ Objective story: Journalism at Small Liberal Arts Colleges Shouldn’t Be Inaccessible
We love publishing first-time writers. When we ask for clips or writing samples, we’re not asking for anything more than your personal blog or class assignment so we can get a good understanding of your voice.
WHAT TO INCLUDE IN SUBMISSION
- SUBJECT: Proposed Headline We encourage direct, clear headlines that give a good grasp of what your story will cover. BODY: 2-4 paragraphs that describe the conflict, solution/analysis, interview process, turn-around time, and word count.
COMPENSATION
- We pay $200-$600 per piece, but honestly we’re happy to negotiate more if you’ve sunk a lot of reporting into it. Bluntly, we’d like to pay more as our funding improves, but we want to be honest with our writers about our capacity.
