Barron’s seeks a personal finance writer

Posted by Chris Roush

Barron’s is searching for an insightful and experienced personal finance writer who can help readers navigate through the rapidly changing world of investing and the critical pocketbook issues that Americans are facing.

A key component of this person’s job will be to explain and respond to news events — and what those developments could mean for the wealth, retirement, taxes and incomes of ordinary people.

Candidates should be well-versed in the traditional advice that has helped generations of workers retire well. At the same time, we are seeking a writer who understands the unique challenges that millennials and younger generations face in building wealth — as well as the range of new options these emerging investors and savers can tap. This journalist should be able to advise readers on emerging products — and whether they should take the plunge into new instruments such as cryptocurrencies and other alternative investments.

A successful candidate should be digitally savvy and able to make the news digestible by using FAQs, charts and other news-you-can-use story forms. Experience working in a newsroom is required, as is working collaboratively with colleagues and editors.

Interested candidates can send a resume, no more than three clips in PDF form and a cover letter to David Cho david.cho@barrons.com or Bob Rose bob.rose@barrons.com or apply through the link provided.

Responsibilities include:

  • Well sourced with the influencers, companies and personalities that drive the personal finance world.
  • Able to generate quick angles and strong ideas off the news and meet urgent deadlines.
  • Able to generate long-form ideas that answer major questions about personal finance and pocketbook issues.
  • Familiarity with corporate balance sheets, financial valuations and investing principles.
