Matt Turner

Matt Turner has been named editor in chief of Business Insider, joining Alyson Shontell in that position.

They will oversee different parts of the operation as Business Insider plans to nearly double the size of its newsroom in a year.

Shontell sent out the following announcement:

All,

Over the past two years, I’ve had the pleasure of working with Matt Turner as my executive editor. He has helped our newsroom make great strides, helming ambitious editorial packages, pushing our subscription strategy forward, recruiting stars, and contributing to the great journalism we produce every day.

In that time, I have come to see Matt as more than a report. He is a true partner.

A true partner deserves ownership and a chance to lead. I am thrilled to promote Matt to co-EIC of Business Insider.

We will run the newsroom together while overseeing different parts. Matt will run the finance half as well as strategy. I will take technology and related industries, as well as the business news teams and contribs.

Our mission is to build the world’s most loved business publication. Our plans for next year are ambitious.

We will be investing heavily in our core verticals of tech and finance to make them undeniable must-reads — so much so that we are planning to nearly double newsroom headcount within a year.

That kind of growth requires intense focus from all of us. Each of you will be asked to learn into your strengths and passions. That’s what Matt and I are doing too. His deep finance background compliments mine in tech.

Please join me in congratulating Matt. He is a natural leader, and we are excited to continue building the world’s best business publication together.

Alyson
