Michael Grant, the creative director at the San Francisco Business Times, has been named a John Knight Journalism Fellow at Stanford University for the 2017-18 academic year.
Grant plans to examine how to use technology to make training in digital storytelling accessible to minority publishers.
The fellowships at Stanford started in 1966 to give reporters and editors free run of a great university. The format is now focused on innovation, entrepreneurship and leadership in journalism, helping journalists collaborate on solutions to the biggest challenges facing journalism.
Grant has been with the American City Business Journals paper since February. He previously was a senior digital designer at the Minnespolis Star Tribune, where his duties included working with graphics, data, editors, reporters, illustrators and photographers.
He also worked at the San Francisco Chronicle where his knowledge in digital storytelling, coupled with an interest in modern web technologies, landed him at the heart of digital initiatives.
He is a Grambling State University graduate.
