Reuters plans to cut 25 editorial jobs in its Paris bureau, reports Alexandra Berteau of Le Monde.

Berteau writes, “Reuters News, one of the three largest of them alongside the Agence France-Presse (AFP) and the Associated Press (AP), announced Wednesday, February 27, the teams of its Paris office the removal to come 25 posts of journalists, out of the 84 that the editorial board currently has.

“This voluntary departure plan, presented to the Social and Economic Committee (SSC), has yet to be negotiated with the trade union organizations. ‘The proposed departure conditions are unacceptable. Management will never get as many voluntary departures, and we may fear that they will then be forced,’ said a union source, emphasizing ‘the abatement of writing’.

“The Paris office is the last affected by the vast plan of downsizing in Europe announced in November 2018 by Reuters. In Italy, 16 out of 45 journalist posts could be abolished in Rome and Milan, and 10 out of 120 in Berlin. The editorial offices of Madrid and Lisbon have to merge.”
