Government Executive Media Group editor-in-chief Tom Shoop announced Tuesday that Joe Marks will be returning to NextGov, the company’s federal technology arm, as senior correspondent, where he will be covering cybersecurity.

Here is Shoop’s announcement:

All:

I’m delighted to announce that we have hired a new senior correspondent to cover cybersecurity at Nextgov. And it’s someone many of you are already familiar with: Joe Marks.

From 2011 to 2014, Joe was a reporter at Nextgov, covering the Obama administration’s information technology initiatives and the federal IT world generally. He wrote everything from breaking news blog posts to daily stories to long-form magazine pieces — excelling at all of them. He also served as the face of many of our live and online events.

Joe left Nextgov for a post at Politico’s Cybersecurity Pro, where he honed his skills on the cyber beat. He then became a senior reporter at Bloomberg BNA, covering intellectual property.

Given Nextgov’s mission to report on how information technology is shaping the government of tomorrow, and the ever-growing importance of securing federal IT systems, the cybersecurity beat is a critical one for us. Joe will be covering the full range of federal cyber efforts, including the handling of recent high-profile breaches, White House and agency efforts to improve information security and policy developments on Capitol Hill.
Joe is an inquisitive, sharp, dogged reporter and graceful writer. We’re very lucky that he agreed to rejoin our ranks. He starts Oct. 12. Please join me in giving him a warm welcome back.

Tom
