Veronica Dagher, the host of Wall Street Journal podcast “Secrets of Wealthy Women,” interviewed Fox Business Network anchor Maria Bartiromo about her career
Bartiromo was the first journalist to report live from the floor of the New York Stock Exchange when she was at CNBC, which she left five years ago to work at Fox Business.
“I made a promise that I would own the job and do it better than anyone,” said Bartiromo. “And that’s something that I think anybody needs to do.”
She said she had friends and allies, including NYSE CEO Dick Grasso, who wanted to demystify the exchange. But other traders were against her reporting from the floor. “What I mostly did was I tried not to be in everybody’s faces, and I left when they asked me to leave. But I always came back to get the information so that I could communicate it to the public,” she said.
She noted that a former exchange board member and trader later apologized to her for harassing her during her reporting.
“Things can be tough in a man’s world, no doubt about it,” she said. “…It just made me stronger. No doubt women have a harder path in some jobs.”
