Reuters seeks chief correspondent for Taiwan

Reuters is looking for a dynamic and experienced journalist to head our news operation in Taiwan. The Chief Correspondent will be responsible for leading our coverage of Taiwan, including the technology sector, economy, relations with China and natural disasters.

Requirements:-

He or she will be expected to be a skilled manager and coach, driving coverage ideas, working with the small team of reporters on refining their stories, ensuring smooth handling of routine economics and markets coverage, fostering good cooperation between the bureau’s English- and Chinese-language services, and maintaining relations with the government agencies.

The right candidate would come with ideas and a drive for carving out her/his own coverage niche around the tech sector and the changing industrial landscape in Taiwan, helping to set Reuters’ coverage apart from that of its competitors. He or she would also be the main political reporter in Taiwan, able to explain clearly to outside readers how political developments on the ground could affect the government’s relations with Beijing, and the economic and diplomatic ramifications thereof.

Requirements:

The successful candidate would need to be a creative problem-solver and a consummate team player who would work seamlessly with other teams in greater China and Asia on stories that very frequently cross borders. The successful candidate will have fluent spoken and written Mandarin and will have native level of English. The candidate will have excellent writing skills and have good judgment on the news. The successful candidate will have proven ability to lead teams effectively. It will be an advantage if the candidate has knowledge of the Chinese and/or Taiwanese technology sectors, along with the ability and willingness to work in a highly competitive market. It will be vital for the candidate to be creative with story ideas and reporting angles on a range of topics.
