LA Business Journal seeks manufacturing reporter

Los Angeles business journalThe Los Angeles Business Journal is seeking an ambitious, proactive reporter to cover the regional ports and manufacturing.

The ports of Los Angeles and Long Beach are the busiest in the nation, handling roughly 40 percent of all goods brought into the country by sea. The region’s manufacturing base is still among the largest in the nation, despite ongoing shrinkage.

It is a broad portfolio, but these are beats that are under-covered locally, and there is an opportunity for the right reporter to quickly become established as the leading source of information and news on industries that have profound impact on the local and national economies.

While previous business reporting experience is highly valued, it is not required. What is required is a demonstrated ability to dig for stories, a sense of skepticism, and curiosity, and the ability to engage and enlighten readers. We’re looking for someone who will hit the ground running and integrate quickly in our highly productive newsroom.

The Business Journal is in a period of transformation, redefining how we deliver news and analysis both in our core print product and in our redesigned digital offerings. Creative thinkers are highly valued: Reporters are expected to develop stories of substance while also thinking about visual and graphical elements that can enhance their impact across all platforms.

To apply, send your resume, clips and a cover letter to editor Jonathan Diamond at jdiamond@labusinessjournal.com.
