Wisconsin paper cuts biz column

March 10, 2009

Arlen Boardman, who has written an estimated 1,100 columns for the business section of the Appleton Post-Crescent, has written his last.

Boardman, who wrote the column during 19 years as the business editor and then another eight during retirement, writes Tuesday that his column is a victim of cost cutting.

Boardman writes, “I was lucky; I’ve had a 44-year newspaper career, including a 42-year affiliation with The P-C. I loved writing for The P-C, especially my 27 years covering business.

“In today’s world, ending a traditional newspaper column doesn’t mean it’s over. The World Wide Web provides a plethora of possibilities for writing. I already have a newly created Internet blog www.arlen boardman.blogspot.com and expect other writing opportunities might arise.”
