Global regulatory risk newswire MLex is looking for an AI Correspondent for its London bureau. This is an opportunity for a keen and driven reporter to dive deep into one of the most defining regulatory stories of our time: artificial intelligence.
The beat involves coverage of artificial intelligence regulation in the UK. MLex seeks to get ahead of the procedural story through deep-dive analyses of legislation to anticipate where regulatory problems may lie. It’s a high-pressure beat in which there’s an expectation you’ll break market-moving news while offering the forward-looking analysis that helps inform decision-makers.
MLex is a real-time newswire and the successful candidate will be expected to turn around urgent copy quickly. It is critical that the successful candidate can successful spot a story that will appeal to MLex’s broad-but-demanding readership. We also publish in-depth reporting and commentary, and the AI Correspondent will be expected to identify risks posed by legislation ahead of our competitors and use this expertise to write in-depth, big impact investigations and commentary pieces.
The AI Correspondent will work with our Senior AI Correspondent to lead coverage of artificial intelligence in the UK, while working closely with colleagues in other bureaux and the broader data, privacy and security team.
The successful candidate must be able to write clearly and concisely in impeccable English. Fluency in any other additional European language would be a distinct advantage.
The successful candidate will be expected to work in our central London office at least two days a week under our post-Covid hybrid working policy; the other three days may be worked from home (accurate as of May 2024, subject to revision).
What we are looking for:
At least two years of journalism experience
Drive to break exclusive news and write poignant analysis
Writing with speed and flair in both newswire and commentary formats
Knowledge of UK regulatory environment
Interest in artificial intelligence regulation
Broad network of sources across UK agencies, industry and law firms
Social skills to work with a diverse, international team
Fluent in English
Skills in other European languages a distinct advantage
