Wired hires two, names Streshinsky its executive editor

Wired editor in chief Nicholas Thompson announced Wednesday that Jahna Berry has been hired as head of content operations, Tom Simonite has been hired as senior writer, and Maria Streshinsky has been promoted from features editor to executive editor.

“I am excited to announce these new hires and promotions,” said Thompson in a statement. “We’ve got Maria figuring out how to cover the forces changing our world, Tom writing about the single biggest source of change, and Jahna ensuring that Wired thrives throughout all of this change.”

Berry joins Wired from Mother Jones, where she served as director of news product, overseeing the presentation of digital content from user experience to audience development.

Previously, Berry held positions at news organizations including The Arizona Republic and San Francisco Business Times. In Berry’s new role, she will help oversee content operations across all WIRED platforms, including the magazine, website, and digital edition.

Her first day will be June 12 in San Francisco.

Simonite joins Wired from MIT Technology Review, where he served as San Francisco bureau chief. He has covered science and technology for more than a decade, and previously wrote and edited emerging technology coverage for New Scientist. In Simonite’s new role as senior writer, he will focus on artificial intelligence and it’s vast potential to shape the future.

His first day will be June 5 in San Francisco.

Streshinsky has served as Wired’s features editor since 2016. In her new role as executive editor, she will be responsible for overseeing print editorial including feature stories, special issues and packages, as well as continuity of editorial vision across all platforms.

Prior to joining Wired, Streshinsky served as deputy editor at Mother Jones, editor in chief at Pacific Standard, and managing editor at The Atlantic. Her promotion is effective immediately.
