Time launches site covering tech, gaming industry

November 16, 2009

Techland, a Web site for technology, entertainment, games and culture, launched Monday from Time.com.

Techland plans to combine breaking tech news, reviews and discussion on the cutting edge of all things nerd.

The site is led by Peter Ha, Time.com technology editor and previously a writer for CrunchGear.com. Techland’s team is also comprised of Lev Grossman, Time senior writer, book critic and lead technology writer; Matt Selman, Time.com/Nerdworld contributor and executive producer of The Simpsons; and Steve Snyder, who will cover the latest films, DVDs and TV.

Together they plan to cover:

  • Interviews with icons of the tech culture world including Robert Kirkman from Image Comics, Gabe Newell from Valve and 2012 Director Ronald Emmerich;
  • Breaking tech news and one-of-a-kind features including sneak peeks of the newest products, books and shows, weekly video wrap-ups with Grossman and Ha playing their favorite new game while discussing tech news, weekly video reviews, and regular Battlestar Galactica updates.
  • Reviews of the newest gadgets — Ha has unparalleled knowledge of the latest products and will be honest with the Techland audience about what’s hot and what’s not.
  • The news on the latest comic books, sci-fi literature and films.
  • The most anticipated television shows, DVDs and video games through reviews, exclusive clips, commentary, video interviews and more.

“Techland understands that the same people who care about the latest Apple news also happen to like Star Trek and World of Warcraft. It’s a link between technology and culture, with the resources and standards of a mainstream media outlet. We believe there’s really nothing else like it,” said Josh Tyrangiel, the managing editor of Time.com, in a statement.
