SABEWThe Society of American Business Editors and Writers is seeking applications for a workshop in Washington that will help journalists better understand health care economics and provide an update on the Affordable Care Act.

The training program comes during insurance-enrollment season, in which more than 8 million Americans are expected to use government exchanges.

With double-digit premium hikes and major insurers dropping out, we will hear from reporters and experts on what the politics and potential policy changes are expected to be after the election. In addition, the workshop will examine drug pricing issues — from EpiPens to generics — and the burgeoning medical marijuana industry.

Workshop attendees will be able to share and test out story ideas at this fifth annual Business of Health Care Summit. The program begins the evening of Thursday, Dec. 1, with a mixer at the National Press Club and ends midday Saturday, Dec. 3.

Friday and Saturday events will be held at the new Bloomberg newsroom on New York Avenue.

Space is limited to 15 journalists. Selected journalists will receive a stipend to offset travel related expenses. Application deadline is Nov. 7.
