Michael Williams, global enterprise editor of Reuters, sent out the following message on Sunday:
I’m happy to announce that Peter Hirschberg has joined Reuters as Asia Investigative Editor, based in Hong Kong. In this new role, Peter will manage the Asia Enterprise Team and oversee our investigative and enterprise coverage for the region.
Asia Enterprise Editor Bill Tarrant will remain a pillar of the team, reporting to Peter. Bill has played a central role in some of Reuters’ most distinguished work, including last year’s Pulitzer-winning investigation of the Rohingya crisis, exposés of worker exploitation at the Fukushima nuclear plant and a series on China’s military strategy. He will remain part of the Asian editorial leadership team as well.
Peter joins us from Bloomberg, where he spent nearly six years as a reporter and editor. Most recently, he was deputy managing editor for Asian economics and government coverage in Hong Kong. He was a lead editor on the newswire’s groundbreaking investigation of the secret wealth of the Chinese leadership, “Revolution to Riches.” Before moving to Asia, Peter ran Bloomberg’s political and economic coverage in the Middle East and Africa. Prior to Bloomberg, he was a founding editor of Haaretz.com, the website of Israel’s leading daily newspaper, and editor of the Haaretz English-language print edition. Born in South Africa, Peter has a degree in political science from the University of Cape Town.
Hirschberg left Bloomberg in June.
