New England biz publications being sold

The Worcester Business Journal, Hartford Business Journal and MaineBiz are being sold by their parent company to two of its long-time senior managers, according to a story in the Worcester paper. A price was not disclosed.

Hartford Business JournalThe two senior managers are Peter Stanton and Joe Zwiebel. The sale is expected to close March 31, 2007. The former owner of the publications is Worcester Publishing, which is principally owned by Allen Fletcher, and will continue to publish Worcester Magazine.

A short story stated, “The new company will be called New England Business Media LLC. Stanton will serve as CEO, and Zwiebel will serve as executive vice president and group publisher. The parties have been working to complete the transaction since late last fall.

“‘This enables me to focus on a single publication,’ says Fletcher. ‘I am deeply pleased to be able to pass the business journals on to Peter and Joe, who have been involved in them for all of our 17 years. They are fine publications, and they will be in good hands.'”

Read more here. The Worcester Business Journal was started in 1990, while the Hartford paper started in 1992 with Zwiebel as publisher. The MaineBiz publication was acquired in 1998.
