Globe and Mail biz reporter Silcoff wins prize

Sean SilcoffGlobe and Mail reporter Sean Silcoff, co-author of “Losing the Signal; the Remarkable Rise and Spectacular Fall of BlackBerry,” has been awarded the Economic Education Prize by the Montreal Economic Institute.

A story on the Globe and Mail website states, “Mr. Silcoff won the $3,000 award for his work on the negative effects of corporate subsidies and the consequences of the welfare state.

“His ‘analyses help Canadians have a clearer understanding of political and economic issues,’ said the MEI, which is a non-profit think tank based in Montreal.

“‘This award is further proof of Sean’s great contribution to the Report on Business and the quality ROB provides readers every day in print and online,’ said Paul Waldie, editor of Report on Business.

“The MEI honours two journalists every year who ‘demonstrate an exceptional understanding of the economic consequences of public policies.'”
