WNYC taps NPR’s Young in newly created role of senior VP, WNYC Studios

Kenya Young

New York Public Radio has appointed Kenya Young as senior vice president, WNYC Studios. In her new role, Young will oversee a portfolio, including The New Yorker Public Hour and more. She will also set the strategic direction for WNYC Studios’ portfolio of podcasts.

Young will also lead and support teams developing and producing shows. In addition, she will also build out WNYC Studios’ new Documentary Unit which will focus on producing long-form nonfiction audio works.

She begins on June 13.

Young will join from NPR, where she has worked since 2007, first as an intern in the California bureau. Recently, she served as managing editor for collaborative journalism and was previously executive producer of NPR’s Morning Edition and Up First.

Under her helm, Up First ranked as one of NPR’s top podcasts. Apart from this, she also helped run daily news operations.

Young has a B.A. from the University of Notre Dame.
