Washington Post names Mekhennet international security correspondent

Souad Mekhennet

Souad Mekhennet, a staff writer, will be taking on an expanded role at The Washington Post as an international security correspondent working with the national security and foreign desks.

Mekhennet has been a longtime contributor to The Post, and before that was a columnist at The Daily Beast. She was also a member of the “female factor team” at the Global edition of The New York Times, writing about news, issues and perspectives related to Muslim women globally.

She is a visiting fellow at the School for Advanced and International Studies (SAIS) at Johns Hopkins University and the New America Foundation. She is also a Young Global Leader at the World Economic Forum.

Mekhennet was a Pulitzer Prize finalist and has won various awards, including the Daniel Pearl Award and Germany’s prestigious Henri-Nannen Prize and Ludwig-Börne Prize.

She has also authored four books.
