Washington Post names Barrios local government and politics editor

Jennifer Barrios is now a local government and politics editor at The Washington Post, a role she has held on an interim basis for the past several months.

Barrios joined The Post in 2018 as a staff writer.

Prior to that, she was with Newsday for more than 11 years, joining as a reporter/editor, covering everything from government to the environment. She then became a deputy editor, supervising and assigning reporters, and running stories, among other tasks.

She was also a reporter at Austin American-Statesman and has worked freelance for several publications, including The New York Times Magazine. She was also a staff writer at Easy Bay Express and an editor at Marinscope Papers.

She was also an editorial intern/fellow at Mother Jones.

Barrios holds a bachelor’s degree in mass communications and a master’s degree in journalism from the University of California, Berkeley.
