Vox has hired Ryan J. McCarthy as editorial director for politics, policy and society, overseeing the politics and policy team and stories about America.
He begins Sept. 20.
McCarthy also provides consulting, strategic services and executive-level editorial support for a diverse group of media companies. Previously, he has also worked at ProPublica as a reporter/editor. He also served as editor-in-chief Vice News.
He was also an assistant editor, National desk at the New York Times and was an assistant business editor at The Washington Post. He also helped launch “Rest of World,” a global nonprofit newsroom that covers technology’s impact outside of the Western world.
He has also held editorial posts at Thomson Reuters and Huffington Post and was a senior reporter at Inc. magazine.
McCarthy is a Wesleyan University graduate.
