The Toronto Star has hired Nicole MacIntyre as managing editor of news. She joins from The Globe and Mail, where she was most recently deputy national editor. Before that, she was Toronto editor.
She has also reported and edited for The Hamilton Spectator. She has previously also reported for the Toronto Star and the Waterloo Region Record, and has interned at The London Free Press.
MacIntyre has a master’s degree in journalism from the University of Western Ontario.
Jordan Himelfarb has been named managing editor, politics. Previously, he was the Star’s politics editor, overseeing the Ottawa, Queen’s Park and Washington bureaus. Himelfarb joined the paper in 2013, working with the editorial board before moving over to news.
Lastly, Sarmishta Subramanian joins as executive features editor. Subramanian is a veteran of the Canadian magazine industry, with senior editorial positions at Saturday Night, The Walrus, Maclean’s, Chatelaine, and the National Post.
She was also editor-in-chief of The Literary Review of Canada, and was most recently editor-at-large at Maclean’s and consulting editor at The Logic. She has also served as a features editor at the Star more than a decade ago.
