The 19th News, an independent nonprofit newsroom, has appointed Julia B. Chan as editor-in-chief.
Chan joins from KQED News in San Francisco, where she served as digital managing editor leading editorial content strategies, story production, and audience engagement across platforms. She also served as director of audience at Mother Jones.
Chan also served as an online engagement coordinator, communications manager and then as digital editor at Reveal from The Center for Investigative Reporting. She has also reported and edited for The San Francisco Examiner.
Chan graduated from San Francisco State University.
