Texas Tribune taps LA Times’ Chan as editor-in-chief

The Texas Tribune has appointed Sewell Chan as its editor-in-chief.

Currently, Chan is an editorial page editor at the Los Angles Times. Chan has been with the Times for 3 years, joining as a deputy managing editor.

His last day is September 3.

Previously, he was with The New York Times for over 13 years, joining as a metro reporter and City Room bureau chief. He then served as a Washington correspondent and then became a deputy editor, Op-Ed/Sunday Review.

He was then promoted to the post of international news editor, London, and then served as an international news editor.

Chan has also reported for The Washington Post.

Chan has a B.A. from Harvard University and a MPhil from the University of Oxford. He is currently enrolled in an executive program in news innovation and leadership and organizational leadership at Craig Newmark Graduate School of Journalism at CUNY.
