The following excerpt announcement was sent out by The Washington Post head of mobile strategy Coleen O’Lear and emerging news products director Chris Meighan:

We are excited to announce John Taylor will be assignment editor for The 7, our morning briefing. In this new role, John will oversee two writers and edit The 7’s daily products, including the briefing, which is available weekdays from 7 a.m. to 10 a.m. Eastern; the newsletter; and the daily push notification.

He played an instrumental role in launching The Post on Snapchat in February 2017. As editor, John and the team grew our Snapchat audience to 2.2 million by creating impactful news briefs for Happening Now and thoughtful magazine-style editions for Discover, which were recognized by the Digiday Publishing Awards. Two years ago, he expanded his portfolio to include vertical storytelling on Instagram when he became Stories editor.

Before joining Emerging News Products in late 2017, John was a multiplatform editor for six years focused on Weekend, the Going Out Guide and the Sports section. Before joining The Post, he worked for eight years at Washington Times, where he was deputy sports editor, assistant sports editor, a copy editor and a page designer. He has also been an editor at SB Nation and USA Today.

Please join us in congratulating John on his new role. He starts Dec. 13.
