The Tampa Bay Times has promoted Bill Varian to the post of local government and politics editor. He previously worked as a business editor, while overseeing the Times’ environmental coverage.
He is also the Times’ main person on the Florida Climate Reporting Network, a multi-newsroom collaboration documenting the effects of climate change on one of the most vulnerable states in the nation.
Before serving as editor, Varian spent several years covering Hillsborough County government and politics. He has also worked at newspapers in Tallahassee, Augusta, GA, and Burlington, N.C.
