Takenaga joins NY Times London bureau as senior audience editor

Lara Takenaga

Lara Takenaga will be joining the New York Times London bureau as senior audience editor.

In this role, she will oversee the social editor and work closely with the news desk, express desk and the rest of the bureau helping identify social, search and community opportunities while shaping coverage on sensitive stories and breaking news.

Takenaga has been with the Times for more than 4 years, joining as an editorial assistant on the Syndicate team. She then became assistant editor, Syndicate and later on held the post of news assistant, Reader Center and then also served as senior news assistant, Reader Center.

She has also worked as staff editor, Reader Center and co-written the Coronavirus Briefing.

Takenaga has also worked at AFAR Media as an editorial intern/freelancer and then as a content licensing assistant editor. She has also served as research assistant at footnoted.com and held the posts of first copy editor and then managing editor at YouSwoop.

Additionally, she has also served as breaking news and copy-editing journalist at The Oregonian and was an editorial intern at Hour Media.

Takenaga holds a Bachelor’s degree in journalism, French and psychology from Northwestern University.
