Philly Inquirer taps Jones as managing editor

Richard G. Jones

Richard G. Jones is returning to the Philadelphia Inquirer as managing editor for Opinion.

His new role begins July 26.

Jones previously worked at the Inquirer from 1993 to 2001.

Recently, he was Annenberg-Joyce director of the John W. Gallivan Program in Journalism, Ethics and Democracy at Notre Dame.

He has taught at University of Delaware, American University, Rutgers University, New York University and the  University of Maryland.

He has served as director at The New York Times Student Journalism Institute. Before that, he was an associate editor at The Times. Jones has also worked as a reporter and editor, Local East Village at the Times.

Jones is a B.A. in English/journalism from the University of Delaware and a M.S. in journalism from Columbia University – Graduate School of Journalism. He is also a Ph.D. in journalism studies from the University of Maryland College Park.
